I love life hacks.
Have you seen those Youtube videos?
They describe, for example, “How to dust and mop 10x faster-- using
your dad's power drill.” I love learning that stuff, and Youtube
provides an endless supply. I find trivial information gripping.
Learning how to do things well, even trivial things, is satisfying
and generally worth finding and practicing. I've been expending
energy to learn and improve – and have a bit of fun along the way
;)
A recent read is Timothy Ferriss' book
The 4-Hour Chef. Learning
to cook well has been fascinating. I'm learning to appreciate the
tastes and smells and make pairings that I can enjoy. Learning about
food can be utterly sensational.
I am learning about living out of a
place of courage in my personal relationships. Mending the Soul,
Daring Greatly, and just receiving the goodness of God all continue
to be life changing.
I bought a sporty car just for the heck
of it. I've been driving it for a few weeks now. I know I won't own
this particular car forever. It has been FUN.
In its essence, I am enjoying living
life. Life is very, very good. 1 Timothy 6 argues that God “richly
provides us with everything to enjoy,” as long as we are first
trusting in and loving Him.
I often recognize my heart's idolatry
by the tug to protect or sacrifice to an idol. And this was the case
last night. I was on a prayer walk, pondering and feeling stress
over some very good things that I can sometimes allow to become
'Ultimate' things. I prayed and walked for around twenty minutes
when Psalm 63:3 flooded my head followed by a surge of peace that,
frankly, wasn't within my grasp of understanding.
“Because your love is better than
life, my lips will praise You.”
I love how the author promises that God
really is better than all that life is.
That if you take the best of the
essence of life (which in my head looks like an infinity stone from
Guardians of the Galaxy), and if you could hold it up and compare it
to God's love, God would win hands down every time. Not even close.
I feel that God is teaching me Life is
very, very good.
Enjoy it. Learn. Grow. Revel in its
beauty.
And keep it in its place.
